Music - B.A. < Kent State University

Notation of rhythm and pitch; scales, intervals, triads, and seventh chords; principles of voice leading and harmonic progression. Non-chord tones; cadences, phrases, and periods; introduction to Schenkerian analysis; inversions of triads and seventh chords.

The development of aural perception and sight-singing ability; material is correlated with MUS Notation, metrical organization and rhythmic structure, scales and key signatures, intervals, triads, ear training, and sight singing.

Previous performance in jazz big band or jazz combo. Survey class that introduces students to the rich repertoire of music in Latin America. It explores the history of genres, their development, instruments and representative artists in their geographical, social and cultural contexts.

Same as LALS Creative Arts, and World Cultures course. May be repeated to a maximum of 8 hours. Basic music reading skills and an audition required. Introduction to varied band and wind ensemble literature.

Regular band and wind ensemble literature. Regular performances during the school year. Performance of chamber ensemble literature of varied types. Students may register in more than one section per term. Occasional concerts on and off campus. Audition and consent of the instructor.

Student performance of choral literature of all musical periods. Basic music-reading skills and an audition required. Performs at home basketball and hockey games. Must enroll concurrently in MUS Introduction to string ensemble literature.
